Contrary to popular belief (of those who have never actually experienced it for themselves) depression is not something that you just “get over”.

It is in fact a mental dis-ease that can be managed with the correct medication, counseling and psychological training (mindset education).

It is something that never actually leaves you and can re-occur at any time when triggered by an event that will have you crashing into the next millennium with no warning or preparation.

It can be likened to a never ending emotional roller coaster ride.

never ending emotional roller coaster ride

Just when you think that you have it under control and you are able to function on a day to day basis -

never ending emotional roller coaster ride

From out of nowhere comes another drop into the abyss below where you once again need to find the inner strength, motivation and determination to climb your way out of it again.

This never ending emotional roller coaster ride is just that – a never ending journey of ups and downs that will leave you mentally, physically and emotionally exhausted. This combined with the everyday ups and downs can really leave you feeling challenged.

First Hand Experience of the Never Ending Emotional Roller Coaster Ride

We have first hand experience in relation to this never ending emotional roller coaster ride as we both are afflicted with chronic depression.

Sarah was diagnosed back in 2009 as a teenager and has been learning to deal with it ever since and Gem was also diagnosed as a teenager and has been able to manage it until recently when it came back with a BANG and completely changed her world as she knew it.

The kicker to it all is that we both also are bipolar. We are known to have severe mood swings from elation to depression, when we are up we are energetic, super productive and motivated. When we are down we are the complete opposite – tired, unmotivated, reserved and super moody.

Never Ending Emotional Roller Coaster Ride

Gem has learned over the years just how best to deal with her mood swings without the use of medication, however, recently it was necessary to incorporate medication into her daily life until the depressive feelings that overwhelmed her on a daily basis were able to be controlled. That with the help of regular psychologist counseling and a daily routine of inspirational audios and reading material has helped her to cope better.

However there are days when nothing can help. It is just something that occurs without warning and no amount of reading, listening or viewing can change the dark feeling that occurs.

But, having said that, she doesn’t stay there for long because she knows just how important it is to get out of there as soon as possible.

Regarding herself as one of the most positive people in the world, energetic, inspiring and uplifting keeps her focused on her goals and helps keep the demons at bay.

There are very few people, up until now, that actually know about our conditions because we portray ourselves as being strong, dynamic and unstoppable.

Don’t get us wrong – we are all of those things – just not all the time behind closed doors.

We have written previous articles about depression and the effects of it so we won’t repeat much of that content – what we do want to emphasize is the lack of understanding and compassion that we have seen happening around us.

Understanding More About This Never Ending Emotional Roller Coaster Ride

Depression is far more than just feeling unhappy.

It is a deep seeded feeling of darkness, despair, hopelessness and loneliness that overwhelms you. Your emotions are erratic and often uncontrollable – and that is the trick – to learn to control them.

Our point is that you never know who is silently suffering on the inside. Never assume you know everything about someone.

You never really knows what goes on behind closed doors.

Never Ending Emotional Roller Coaster Ride

Everybody faces their own struggles in life and this is one of ours.

Although we may never be able to get off this never ending emotional roller coaster ride, we are learning to control it better each day.

Being part of the Empower Network community is one of the best forms of therapy that we have ever found. The people, the products, the everything – there is no way to adequately describe the value that you will find here. It is truly priceless!

When we feel like doing nothing else – we listen to one of the many Inner Circle Audios that are on offer. There are so many different subjects available that it is never hard to find one that seems appropriate at the time.

It may take one or two audios to do it but we are able to pick ourselves up, brush ourselves down and continue on with the day with a positive outlook and the motivation to get things done.

If you are dealing with any form of struggle in your life whether it be financial, physical or psychological – do yourself a favour and plug into the Empower Network Inner Circle Audios – they will have a magical effect on you that will make anything seem possible.

What is Your Priority?

Work may be important to you but remember that your family should always be your priority.

Work can always get another job or line of work but you can never replace your family.

You can never get back the time you have missed out on sharing with them either.

Isn’t it time you thought about your life and what is your priority?

Cat Stevens wrote a song about the lost connection between a father and son many years ago and how the son ended up just like his father….

Realizing Your Priority Too Late

Facing Your Priority

The following is a dialogue that has been going around for a number of years and every time we read it we take time to reflect and recognize where we were to where we are now and are so incredibly grateful that we realized where our priorities lay and took action to change the way we worked.

We would never change the amount of quality time we spend together as a family because we realized just how short life is and you need to know exactly what your priority is in life and why.

Take the time to read this and reflect on your own life and make the changes you need to avoid being in this situation before you find out that you have missed out on the important things in life.

SON: “Daddy, may I ask you a question?”
DAD: “Yeah sure, what is it?”
SON: “Daddy, how much do you make an hour?”
DAD: “That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?”
SON: “I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?”
DAD: “If you must know, I make $100 an hour.”
SON: “Oh! (With his head down).
SON: “Daddy, may I please borrow $50?”

The father was furious.

DAD: “If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such this childish behavior.”

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think:

Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $ 50 and he really didn’t ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.

DAD: “Are you asleep, son?”
SON: “No daddy, I’m awake”.
DAD: “I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier. It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $50 you asked for.”

The little boy sat straight up, smiling.

SON: “Oh, thank you daddy!”

Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

DAD: “Why do you want more money if you already have some?”
SON: “Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do.

“Daddy, I have $100 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.”

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

Remembering Your Priority

It’s just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life.

We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts.

Do remember to share that $100 worth of your time with someone you love?

If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days.

But the family and friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.

And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family.

Some things are more important and should become your priority without question.

We had the absolute pleasure of listening to Sam Crowley as guest speaker on Empower Network’s “Empower Hour” today, Monday 5th August 2013.

For those of you who may not be familiar with Sam, he is a former Fortune 100 executive who became a best-selling co-author, business coach and much sought after speaker who has shared the stage with some of the world’s finest speakers including Bob Proctor, Les Brown, T Harv Eker just to name a few.Sam knows exactly what it means to squeeze the most out of life!

As most successful corporate executives know that with the high salary comes a high price – the price of freedom. Freedom to spend quality time with your family, freedom to plan a vacation, freedom to live your life as you want to live it.

It means long hours, little sleep and lots of stress.

Every night Sam would arrive home late just in time to tuck his daughter, Madeline, into bed. And every night she would ask the same question of her father:

Is tomorrow Saturday?

Why?

Because Saturday was the only day Sam was at home and able to spend quality time with her and the rest of the family.

Sam vowed that one day that one day soon:

Everyday would be Saturday

And that is exactly what he did.

Taking Action to Squeeze the Most Out of Life

On May 6, 2005 Sam made the monumental decision to resign from his high powered, high paying corporate job and pursue his ultimate dream of everyday being Saturday.

Sam’s ultimate success did not come without some huge falls and struggles along the way.

He lost over $300,000 on his first venture.

Filed for bankruptcy.

Then, just three months after he initially resigned, he found himself asking his old boss for work, only to be employed on a meager salary of $39,000 per year in a position way down the corporate ladder from where he left.

In fact he found himself working for some of those who were initially under his command.

He knew that there was more to life than just existing day to day in a place where he was clearly not happy.

Everyday is saturday

How to Squeeze the Most Out of Life

He began to tell the story of his incredible entrepreneurial journey in the form of a blog. He spent a lot of his time writing about his boss and although he didn’t think anyone would read it, he soon realized that he had quite a following.

He started to record his voice for podcasts and eventually Sam launched the personal development brand Every Day Is Saturday and the hugely successful website EverydayIsSaturday.com.

Sam did whatever was necessary to ensure he kept to his word. He realized just how precious time is and makes every effort to squeeze the most out of life everyday, often starting each morning with a roller coaster ride or two!

Sam is now an active member and recognized leader within Empower Network and part of the Extreme Team.

Where people all around the world spend hundred’s of dollars to hear Sam Crowley speak, not only were we able to listen to him today FOR FREE but as part of the Extreme Team we are able to listen to him whenever he hosts any of our Team training calls and webinars.

Get connected with leaders such as Sam Crowley and learn to squeeze the most out of life.
